Learn to stop worrying and love the practice of breast pathology with this comprehensive, illustration-rich survival guide. Our primary aim was to provide a clear, practical resource for pathologists to enhance their diagnostic accuracy and improve their confidence in everyday practice. We use numerous high-quality images that correspond directly with the adjacent text to give a step-by-step “walk through” of key diagnostic features and concepts. The discussion reflects our real-life approach to diagnostic challenges, honed over many years as subspecialty breast pathologists.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our mentor, Dr. Frederick Koerner, whose guidance and expertise were instrumental in shaping our understanding and passion for breast pathology. Without him, none of this would be possible. We hope that the words herein will do his teaching some small justice. In many ways, this endeavor grew out of a breast pathology resource for trainees that Dr. Koerner spearheaded at Massachusetts General Hospital; it has, perhaps, sprawled into something less recognizable in this book, but we hope he can see that at its roots, there are still the principles of careful observation and studied application. We are indebted to him for his
inspiration, as well as for the kind use of personal photomicrographs.
Breast pathology is a complex field that requires a keen understanding of subtle
histologic patterns and knowledge of the clinical relevance of pathologic findings. This guide will serve not only as a useful reference but also as a trusted companion for the pathologist navigating this fascinating, and oftentimes challenging, landscape in order to provide the best care for patients.
